“A New Epigenetic Assay to Address Feared False-Negative Prostate Biopsy Results.”

Objectives: At the conclusion of this educational activity, the attendee should be able to:

  1. To assess new molecular biomarkers for the improved diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
  2. To describe a DNA methylation-specific PCR assay which assesses the status of three prostate cancer related genes GST-P1, APC and RASSF1a to confirm a true-negative biopsy result.
  3. To discuss the possibility of reduction of unnecessary repeat biopsies for otherwise healthy, cancer-free men, and to help identify those men with occult cancer requiring immediate repeat biopsy and potential treatment.
